Section 22

Created for the sole purpose of being a San Francisco Giants fan's outlet when there is a need for more than a 140-character Twitter post. I have a man crush on Buster Posey's OBP and opposite field approach.

The Giants won the 2010 and 2012 World Series. Your argument is invalid.

"Hi, I’m a national baseball writer and I’m required to pick the Phillies to win the World Series in 2010."

…or that’s what it seems like, doesn’t it?

I swear, I have never seen every single national writer slobber a team since, well, last year when the Yankees were the flavor of the month. Oh well.

Nobody — and this is coming from somebody who has read a lot of articles the past two days — is giving the Giants much hope. They say something along the lines of “TEH ALMIGHTY PHILLIES ARE NEVER GOING TO LOSE AGAIN.”

I get it. The Phillies are a damn good team. They have one of the best rotations around. H20, Ha-Ha-Os (sounds like a great cereal), whatever you want to call it, is one of, if not the best pitching tridents. Oh, and their lineup ain’t too shabby either.

They’re the favorites in the NLCS. I won’t let my love for the Giants overlook that fact.

But Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, Jonathan Sanchez and Madison Bumgarner in his wonderful North Carolina twang say hello. So does Buster Posey and Aubrey Huff’s rally thong. They all say hi. And they’re ready to play.

It’s not like the Giants are going to go into Philly this weekend and be like “Oh, you’re the Phillies? Well, go right ahead and beat us. You guys are so great. It’ll be our pleasure to lose to this decade’s dynasty.”

That ain’t going to happen.

Maybe I have my insane Giants bias rearing its ugly head right now. That could very well be the case. But think of it this way — I had no rooting interest in last year’s playoffs and I felt the same way.

I’ve learned this season that this Giants team will surprise you when you least expect it. They won the NL West when I thought they’d finish around .500. They had a career minor leaguer turn into one of the most valuable players in baseball. Aubrey Huff went from the worst year of his career in 2009 to a rally thong-induced rejuvenation.

What’s one more?
